"The Last Word in Welcome"

A delightful old coaching inn just south of the Scots border a few miles from Otterburn on the A68. Very clean, quiet and comfortable set in stunning surroundings on the edge of the Kielder Forest. We had a double room of good size, en-suite, TV, kettle with comfortable bed and sofa. WiFi service very good. No complaints whatsoever. Full English Breakfast excellent, best bacon and black pud I have tasted in a long time, all prepared fresh to order. Other options available as per menu. The dinner menu is good basic pub grub, reasonably priced with a good selection of wines and local beers. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. There are many wonderful places to visit within 30 minutes or so - NT properties at Wallington and Crag Side (both fantastic); Hadrian's Wall at Hexham (amazing roman forts); walking/hiking and night sky observation in the Kielder Forest. We stayed for 3 days and will be back. This part of Northumberland far exceeded our expectations. Very highly recommended.

"Dark skies"

We had a wonderful astronomy weekend at the Redesdale Arms. Great clear skies (although some cloud) enough to let us see meteors, nebulae, stars & constellations with expert help & sophisticated equipment. Room was great, with a lovely comfy bed & the food was excellent. Carol and the staff are very friendly and welcoming and really made us feel at home. We will certainly be going there again.

“We came looking for dark skies and got two out of three wonderful ones”

We came to see the Kielder forest, Northumberland and dark skies with lots of stars. We found the observatory but left it too late to book anything. We didn't have to drive too far towards the forest to see the Milky Way and some very fine stars. The Land Lady was informative, friendly and enthusiastic about star gazing. I wanted to make the most of my sons company before he went abroad so the good food and real ale ensured I did. The room was huge by today’s standards. The heating was effective and as hot or cool as you like it. The shower was a good, strong jet and plenty of hot water. Important for a winter break. Varied menu.

“Enjoyable meal”

Stopped off here after a day out in the countryside. We wanted a good meal - we weren't disappointed. We were welcomed into a relaxed atmosphere. The menu and special boards had good selection on offer. The meals were hot and very tasty. The staff were very friendly. Planning to return to the area and asked about B&B.
